Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist

On Sunday, June 25, I was sent forth as a Minister of the Holy Eucharist. I must say that I had long expected and yearned for this moment, but when the day I had expected for so long arrived, I was very nervous and a little afraid. However, the Gospel and the Homily filled me with strength and confidence. Jesus was telling me: “Do not be afraid” and he repeated it three times. These words touched my heart and suddenly my environment was transformed.

I started to enjoy everything around me. I valued every person near me. I had the great joy of joining with Lety Nacher and Veva Quiles, two great friends and sisters in the community. Also, my husband and my three children were with me in this beautiful celebration, and I had the opportunity to personally give them Holy Communion.

Undoubtedly, these moments shall remain engraved in my mind and in my heart. Yes, I am very aware that the commitment and the responsibility is great, but at the same time, I consider it a privilege to be able to take the Body of Christ to all those who need his love, his strength and his company.

Finally, I want to express my most sincere thanks and acknowledgements to Cristy Castillo, Aurora Garduño, Paty Pacheco, Lety Baños, Mary Moyers, Alma Zavala and to all and every person who, due to the limited space I have, I cannot possible mention by name. Thank you very much for all your advice, your support and your patience. I am convinced that without your help and without your words of encouragement, this memorable and unforgettable event could not have happened.
