Where is Your Sister? (Gen. 4:9)

"If you want to know about your relationship with God, examine your relationship with family, friends, sisters, and nature."

I am fully myself, only in relationship. At one point, concerned about my spiritual journey I sought advice from a wisdom sister who enlightened my quest by explaining that: “If you want to know about your relationship with God, examine your relationship with family, friends, sisters, and nature.” So true.

“If you want to know about your relationship with God, examine your relationship with family, friends, sisters, and nature.”

God is the “space between” calling us constantly into relationship, into a deeper awareness of the Incarnation. Martin Buber reflected that “When two people relate to each other authentically and humanly, God is the electricity that surges between them.” Right relationships awaken our lives to the presence of God among us. We are invited to tune our hearts to this energy which can transform everyone.

My prayer always begins by bringing all those relationships in my life to the space between me and God, to that spiritual energy that surrounds us all. May God hold us all in relationship and bring us closer to the evolving Divine Mystery that has “awed” us into religious life.
