UNIVERSITY OF THE INCARNATE WORD http://www.uiw.edu/
The University is one of the many outgrowths of
the original mission that brought the Sisters of
Charity of the Incarnate Word to San Antonio in
1869. The Sisters’ work began with the care of
victims of a cholera epidemic and the establishment
of the first hospital in the city, an institution
recognized today as the Christus Santa Rosa
Health Care Corporation. Their ministry soon
spread to the care of homeless children and
teaching. In 1881, they secured a charter from the
State of Texas, which empowered them to
establish schools on all levels.

| News and information |
America Magazine http://www.americamagazine.org
America Magazine: The ministry of the word we
exercise at America is a distinctive one. We are
neither an official nor a semi-official review;
neither a scholarly periodical nor a catechetical
one. We are a journal of Catholic opinion. We serve
educated Catholics and other readers interested in
intelligent examination of church and world affairs,
seen through the lens of the Catholic faith and with
the eyes of catholic reason. As Jesuits, we will
continue to carry out our mission with fidelity to the
Petrine office, to Pope Benedict XVI and to his
fellow bishops. The late Pope John Paul II urged the
church of the 21st century to heed the advice of
St. Paulinus of Nola: “Let us listen to what all the
faithful say, because in every one of them the
Spirit of God breathes” (Tertio Millennio
Adveniente, No. 45).

need for greater catechesis and revival of the lay
faithful. Catholic Exchange has become a virtual

Christian faith revealed to us through the Catholic
Church. |
Catholic News http://www.catholicnews.com
The mission of Catholic News Service is the
mission of the Church itself -- to spread the Gospel
through contemporary means of communication.
Our mission is to perform this task by reporting the
news which affects Catholics in their everyday
lives.
Some of that news is good and some is bad, but it
is what readers need to know in order to work for
salvation. They need to know that there are saints
in the making in the Church today and they need to
know that there are sinners too.
Our mission is to report fully, fairly and freely about
the involvement of the Church in the world today.
