 Pray with Us

Pray with us

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites… they love to pray for people to see them. But when you pray, go to your private room and, when you have shut your door, pray to the One who is in that secret place” (Matthew 6:5-6).

FRIDAY, March 19, 2010- Solemnity of Saint Joseph

“Joseph did what the Lord's angel ordered of him”   Mt 1:16.18-21.24a

.

Joseph passes through history unnoticed.  However, his role was extremely important, not only as the protector of the Holy Family, but also as a model of faith in the midst of the most terrible darkness.  The virginal conception of Jesus certainly surpasses any human reasoning, which is why God sends an angel to explain part of the mystery to Joseph.  While he thought about it (Matthew 1: 20), we encounter a man who does not give up, who loves his wife, and who looks for a way to reconcile his way of thinking with the will of God. Even though he is the last one to know about it, Joseph does not reject God's will.  Despite his lack of understanding of God’s plan, Joseph commits himself to it.  His total dedication to his mission is presented as an example for those of us who are called upon cooperate fully with God's Plan, even though we may not often understand it.

.

Remembering these events in the narrative of today’s gospel makes us aware of the call to increase our faith.  One sign of a mature faith is the humble and simple acceptance of the fact that God acts in our history in a way that is sometimes imperceptible, and that perhaps God is inviting us to participate in a less complicated way in his salvation plan.

REFLECTION:   The Incarnation makes the promises and the characters of the Old Testament real: places, people, facts and rites intertwine in accordance with the divine plan, transmitted through angels and received by those particularly sensitive to the voice of God.  Mary is the Lord's humble servant, prepared from eternity for the mission of being the Mother of God; Joseph is the one whom God has chosen to be “coordinator of Jesus' birth”, the one responsible for overseeing the “orderly” insertion of the Son of God into the world, with respect to divine provisions and human laws.  Jesus' entire life, both “private” and “hidden”, has been entrusted to his custody.

How do you empower the Mission that the Incarnate Word has entrusted to you?

.

Incarnate Word: I  adore you and love you with all my heart
