The convent (once the St. Louis Provincial House in Normandy) is sold to the University of Missouri-St. Louis. ▪ Hospitals in Fort Worth and in San Angelo, Texas are also sold. ▪ Sisters Care of San Antonio is organized to provide in-home services to the poor elderly. |

Incarnate Word Foundation is established to continue a ministry in the St. Louis, Missouri area after the closing of Incarnate Word Hospital. |

CHRISTUS Health System, the 8th largest health care system in the United States, is formed by merging the two health care systems of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word of San Antonio and of Houston. |

2001
July |
Two Sisters, followed in 2006 by three others, depart for Mongu, Zambia to begin a new mission honoring God on the 2000th anniversary of the Incarnation of the Word, and expressing the Congregation’s gratitude for all the gifts we have been given throughout our history. They begin with a focus on needs arising from the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

The Chapel of the Incarnate Word celebrates its 100th Anniversary with special liturgies and events, even as it undergoes extensive renovation to reflect more of the Congregation’s identity and to conform to current liturgical guidelines. |
