Incarnate Word Missionaries are lay men and women who are sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. They respond to the call of Christ through the Church by serving the poor and marginalized.

Missionaries may serve in short or long-term commitments. Currently, Incarnate Word Missionaries are serving in North America, South America and Africa. As they carry out their mission, they make God’s love tangible in a broken world.

Mission Statement

Inspired by the charism and mission of the Incarnate Word, we choose to live in community and walk in solidarity with the economically poor and marginalized, in order to be transformed by them and to transform unjust social structures that keep people economically poor and marginalized.

Kelechi AcholonuKelechi Acholonu
I am from the state of New Jersey, and graduated from DePaul University in the area of Political Science and Community Service Studies. I will be serving in Chimbote, Peru for one year. My ministry is with the “Comision de Justicia Social” where I work on various projects including the jail program for inmates aged 18-22, and the leadership and education program for youth in Chimbote. I’ve also participated in events dealing with human rights and AIDS patients, torture, and the incarcerated. I am also always impressed by the great kindness of all the people.

Lauren ParsonsLauren Parsons
From the state of Tennessee in the United States. After graduating in June, 2006, I wanted to be immersed in the life of the people I am working with, challenged in my thinking and to grow in my walk with God. I am serving for one year in Chimbote, Peru. I work in the Comisión de Jusiticia Social, focusing mainly on their jail ministry. The other days I work in the Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro where I am involved in a number of different projects such as working in a community center with children, doing casework for the Defensería, and leading a support group for young women.

Cynthia RoveloCynthia Rovelo

With the “Comision de Justicia Social” she gives support on themes related to  human rights. She provides support in the “Hogar de la Paz” with early stimulation activities for abandoned children. She also participates in a radio program called“Capsulas de Difusion del Evangelio”, and helps with workshops on values in the health programs in the diocese, and visits the sick at the hospice.

As an Incarnate Word Missionary, I will be spending a year in Chimbote, Peru working at the Posta Santa Clara medical clinic.
