When God’s people gather for prayer, the most intimate and all embracing aspect of their life together occurs: the moment when they touch, taste, smell, hear, see, and share those hidden realities that would otherwise remain imperceptible. Together they adore the holiness of God and give expression to the unceasing life God has given them. God nourishes them as a community and makes them holy through the use of ordinary perceptible signs of water, oil, bread and wine, transformed by extraordinary grace. The place where God gathers this people powerfully draws them more deeply into communion and expresses in beauty God’s profound holiness.

Our Story: Spirituality

Chapel of the Incarnate WordThe chapel derives its long history from the three French Sisters who came to Texas from Lyons, France in 1869, answering a call from Bishop Claude Dubuis. They brought the rich spirit of the Incarnate Word experienced at the Monastery of the Incarnate Word founded by Venerable Jeanne de Matel in the 17th century. By the year 1906, the Congregation of 450 members served in 50 ministries spread across 14 dioceses. The Sisters realized that they needed a larger space for the community to assemble for prayer, and so began construction of the Chapel of the Incarnate Word.
