Fruits of the Spirit

As we journey toward Pentecost, we call to mind the “fruits of the spirit” – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

For the next few days, we will offer words from Pope Francis, spoken on a variety of occasions, that pertain to each of these fruits. Most are words of prayer, but some are exhortations, or challenges.

The first is love:

“God is not something vague. Our God is tangible; he is not abstract but has a name: ‘God is Love.’ God’s love is not a sentimental, emotional kind of love but the love of the One who is the origin of all life, the love of Jesus who died on the cross and is raised, and the love of the Spirit who renews human beings, and the world.”

Question for Reflection: Do I make the love of God a real and tangible presence in the world?
