A lovely photo from the recent sale the Sisters had in San Antonio. These all hand-made items from Mezquital, whose population is composed primarily of the indigenous tribe known as Hñähñü. The project is two-pronged: providing pastoral formation and offering much needed community service in this isolated area. Its goal is to bring the populations of Mezquital and the surrounding pueblos closer together to create stronger ties with their faith community and the parish.
I recently became enamored with a recently released movie, “News of the World.” It stars Tom Hanks, and is the story of a man who goes around Texas, immediately after the time of the Civil War, and reads the news of the world to Texans. The story is good in itself; however, he ends up in Castroville, and finally in San Antonio. It’s a wonderful depiction of San Antonio and Texas in the time that our first Sisters came to San Antonio. I highly recommend it.

Another celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Congregation, took place at CHRISTUS Hospice Center in San Antonio to recall the arrival of the three founders to San Antonio in 1869. The event was coordinated by Rev. Derek Labranch, Hospice Chaplain.
For 150 years our Congregation, the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, has served thousands of people, especially those who are economically poor and vulnerable, through a variety of ministries including education, health care, pastoral and social services.
