How to live the charism congruently today and in the future?
The Gospel of Luke tells us the great Mystery of the Incarnation of the Word with great simplicity. The Mystery of the Son of God who takes our warm and mortal flesh in the womb of Mary.
I believe that the Incarnation of Jesus continues alive daily, when I can experience it as an encounter with Life, God is in that life, you are as my brother, my friend, my fellow, with your gifts, qualities, and certainly also your weaknesses, which make us more human and simultaneously stronger; because this Incarnation is also a maturity process in faith and love.
For different reasons, I’ve had many conversations with and about youth in recent weeks. As I continue to meet youth and young adults, I am amazed at the creativity, energy and heart they have. Their ability to generate and a deep desire to transcend. Being with them is life giving to me.
We can say a lot about the faith of simple people, I had a wonderful experience to prove it, it was for me an example of humility, of faith, of prayer, of true trust in God. It was with a person from my parish community, he told me that in his first year of school, he did not learn much and his mother told him: “you are a dumb, you will not go to school next year, you will go to the fields to work with your father”. And so it was, so he never learned how to read or write, he could only draw his name, every time with less effort, but it is just that, a drawing, and he is proud to know that it is his signature.
“I don’t get anything out of going to Mass.” Someone once told me, “You get out of going to Mass what you put into it.” This makes more sense with a more informed theology of Eucharist. When we understand Eucharist, and our participation, as the public prayer of the Church, we tend to “get” more out of going to Mass.
Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word (CCVI) were called to respond to specific and urgent needs of the church in the historic moment of 1869. “Our Lord Jesus Christ suffering in the persons of a multitude of sick and infirm of every kind seeks relief at your hands.”
Thanks for your comments on Words for Life Charism article and for sharing your experiences of having felt that special gift of God through us. Specifically, the charism of the Congregation is “the call to make the love of God as shown in the incarnation a real and tangible presence in the world today.” (Constitution of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Art. #2) What we strive to do in all our actions and our total being is to be Jesus present, real, felt here and now. – here,- where we live and work, and now – in this present moment.
