Moved by the Spirit

Sisters and the Performing Arts is a new art and history exhibit exploring the presence of theater, music, and dance in the life of the Congregation in the United States, Mexico, and Peru.

Through a selection of historical materials and examples from different periods, the exhibit invites visitors to discover how the arts have enriched community life, education, and the Sisters’ mission.

From liturgical celebrations in the Motherhouse chapel to the education of young women at the University of the Incarnate Word and Incarnate Word Academy in the early 20th century, the arts have found many spaces for expression and sharing.

The exhibit is organized into three sections: dance, music, and theater.

Each section highlights different ways creativity, movement, and musical expression have shaped the Congregation’s history, both in educational settings and in the communities where the Sisters have carried out their mission.

Moved by the Spirit celebrates this creative legacy and shows how the performing arts have fostered expression, connection, and participation throughout the years.

The exhibit brings together examples of this history and invites visitors to discover how these artistic expressions continue to bring the Congregation’s charism to life.
