Sr. Teresa Maya contributes to CHA’s new efforts to strengthen sponsor recruitment and formation

We are proud to share that Sr. Teresa Maya has been featured in a recent article by the Catholic Health Association (CHA) spotlighting the evolving landscape of sponsorship in Catholic health care.

As CHA’s Senior Director of Theology and Sponsorship, Sr. Teresa plays a key role in shaping how sponsor bodies are formed, supported, and sustained. In the article, she speaks to the need for an ongoing, thoughtful approach, saying: “We understand that sponsor formation is a lifelong journey. We also understand that sponsors are constantly discerning their work because the environment is changing faster.”

The article highlights CHA’s efforts to develop a new sponsor formation framework, create recruitment and succession planning guides, and expand resources to ensure sponsor bodies remain a vital force in carrying forward the healing mission of Catholic health care.

Sr. Teresa emphasizes that this work is grounded in a “synodal process,” a model of communal listening, discernment, and response inspired by the broader Church.

We are inspired by Sr. Teresa’s leadership and grateful for her continued service to the mission of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word through her work at CHA.
