Celebrating the Season of Creation

Season of Creation: First Week

From September 1 through October 4, the Season of Creation invites us to pause and reflect through the beauty of the natural world. During these weeks, the Incarnate Word Sisters are sharing photographs of water and the places that have made a personal impression on them.

One of the featured images captures the Gulf of Mexico at Cole Park in Corpus Christi, offering a glimpse of the water and the landscape that surrounds it.

Another photograph, taken at Canyon Lake, reflects a quieter moment.

For Leti, the stillness of the lake and the way the landscape is reflected on its surface create a sense of connection with God’s calming presence.

Through these images, the Season of Creation becomes an opportunity to notice, appreciate, and share the beauty of the places around us.

Season of Creation: Second Week

During the second week of the Season of Creation, the Incarnate Word Sisters continue to share moments spent near water and in nature.

At Elmendorf Park in San Antonio, Sisters Marichui and Marylou found a place to pause, reflect, and appreciate the beauty around them.

A Taoist saying reminds us that moving water can hide its reflection, while in stillness, everything becomes clearer.

Another reflection invites us to recognize that being connected with nature can also mean experiencing love and feeling loved.

At Lake Springfield, Illinois, Sister Katty describes her walk along the lake as an encounter with living water, reminding her of how expansive and generous life can be.

These images invite us to slow down, take in our surroundings, and find meaning in the stillness of water and the natural spaces we share.

Season of Creation: Third Week

During the third week of the Season of Creation, the images and reflections remind us of the essential role water plays in our lives.

It quenches our thirst, sustains plants, animals, and other living beings, and is part of our daily care for ourselves and the spaces around us.

Sisters Adriana, Martha Laura, Leti, Maricela, and Mirella shared moments by the water in Muskegon, Michigan, showing how it can also be a place to gather, connect, and enjoy time together.

In St. Louis, Missouri, puddles become a source of fun for children, while at Doddridge Park in Corpus Christi, Sister Marylou finds a moment of reflection in the movement of the waves.

These experiences invite us to recognize water as an essential gift of life and to remember our responsibility to care for it.

Season of Creation: Fourth Week

During the fourth week of the Season of Creation, the images take us to different places where water is part of everyday life, nature, and local communities.

In Huascarán National Park in Áncash, Peru, Sister Hirayda shares images of Chinancocha Lagoon, located in the Llanganuco Ravine, the landscape highlights the presence of water among the mountains and the beauty of these natural spaces.

In Chimbote, Peru, water also represents a livelihood. As Sister Christi points out, fishermen depend on water to make a living, showing how closely this resource is connected to the work and daily life of communities.

Other images show water as a place to enjoy and unwind—whether swimming, water skiing, fishing, or simply taking a quiet moment to appreciate the surroundings.

Across these different landscapes and experiences, the photographs continue to show water as a gift that sustains life, brings people together, and connects us with the world around us.
