Today is the Feast of the Holy Innocents. Today we mourn those children murdered by Herod, who had told the Magi to return to him and report to him about the birth of a new king. These young innocents were slaughtered because one of them might one day threaten his power. While this feast day calls us to remember those murdered children and their grieving mothers, might it also remind us of the millions of innocent children, in our own time, who are murdered, disappear, abused, trafficked, or otherwise brutalized because someone holds power over them. Today, we pray for them, and their grieving mothers.
