El ‘niño costero’ in Peru exposed the precarious conditions in which millions of Peruvians live. As the Office of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation, we witnessed the mudslides and floods uncovering the lack of basic services and poor land management that affect our people in many parts of the country.
Sister Ivonne visited the Valle Progreso Area, the place where the Congregation offered immediate relief and support in the hour of Emergency. Sister Yvonne met with some of the families to listen and share words of encouragement and hope with each of them.
As we prepare to accompany the people of Chimbote, Peru, in various nutrition, business, educational, and art projects, we remember that the city grew so rapidly because thousands of people left the highlands of Peru thinking that they could find work in the seaside city. Our group is exploring what life is like in an Andean region and some of the rich history of the Incas. With Cuzco as our base, we have taken tours and explored many Inca sites. People 500 years ago hewed, polished, and carried stones, building these amazing temples.
Women’s Global Connection (WGC), a ministry of our Congregation, has arrived to Peru for their immersion trip this year!

A commissioning ceremony was held on Mon., May 6 at the CCVI Generalate Chapel as a special sendoff for upcoming WGC Immersion Trip travelers to Peru and Tanzania.

Rain continues to plague the Peruvian population, leaving many without a home or access to basic services including water, electricity, food and medication.
Selene Mitchell, our Incarnate Word Missionary in Peru, lives Laudato Si by supporting the efforts of the local coalition ‘Chimbote de Pie’. This is a group of wonderful and brave people, who our JPIC Office met during our first community conversation of Laudato Si in Chimbote, Peru.
During the first weeks of January, I had the opportunity to share the spirituality and charism of the Congregation as Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and the work done by our JPIC Office in Lima, with our lay missionaries in Peru.
