“God’s dwelling is a peace-filled heart” (Letters of Jeanne Chezard de Matel).

Do I have the peace that fills my heart? How do I make it so?

These are beautiful and important questions!

In today’s meditation from the Give Us This Day booklet, St Hildegarde of Bingen is mentioned, and she speaks of the “greening” — viriditas, in Latin — that prayer provides. That greening summons to mind the green pastures of Psalm 23, and the unwithering leaf of the 1st Psalm.

So prayer leads to peace, leads to “greening.” And yes, it is an affair of the heart. Our busy old noggins do get in the way sometimes, don’t they? It was the author of The Little Prince who said that it is only with the heart that one sees clearly.

Thank you, as always, for your thoughtful reflections.

Thomas, thank you for this contribution. How prayer leads to “greening” is a wonderful topic that will lead us to reflect as well.
