Praised be the Incarnate Word!

August 15, 2020.

Dear Sisters:

“I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?”  -Isaiah 43:19

Today we renew our vows.  Today we remember that we accepted God’s call to live the CCVI Mission as Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word forever, no matter what.  Renewing today takes on a whole new meaning.  We renew vows on the first year after our Congregational Jubilee, at the beginning of a new stage in the life of our Congregation.  We renew our vows in the midst of a global crisis accelerated by the pandemic, but which had been coming for a while.  We find ourselves with the rest of humanity in liminal space, before a threshold.

We renew vows on the threshold of a change of epoch.  We know that what is coming will be different: it will invite new integrations, obligating a new restructuring of our congregational life, a renewed significance of our Mission and Charism.   We know that what is coming will transform our way of understanding social interactions and political participation.  We know that what is coming requires a deeper spiritual life to which we have felt called for a while, which invites us to recognize that faith is the true substance of our hope.  For this reason, this renewal is different because it demands our acceptance of the transformation that is coming with the same enthusiasm of our first vows, with the same disposition and joy.

Sisters, we renew our vows in a pivotal time for all humanity, and for our Congregation incarnate in it.  We renew in community, as a Congregational body, because we accept that “no one is saved alone” and because we want to live our commitment in this community which is our Congregation.  We renew in faith because we know that we can only cross the threshold if we agree to accompany Jesus Christ. We renew in charity because, from the time of our first YES, we committed to being the hands and heart of Jesus for those who are most vulnerable where we live.

Today we thank each Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word for the courage and joy with which she renews her commitment to live celibacy, poverty and obedience in community as we face the transformation that will happen when we cross the threshold.

In the name of our General Leadership Team, be assured of our prayer and gratitude.

After reading the story of the Sisters renewing their vow, I want to say thank you to the Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word for serving the Lord and His people.
